A few months back @Hayabusa_MMA came out with their first gi, and it looked like they put in quite a bit of hard work into make something special. Robert Drysdale was the face for the gi and I had to admit the commercial shot by Bobby Razak had me intrigued especially since I owned a pair of their MMA shorts and I still love wearing them. My one problem with the gi was the tribal style artwork on the shoulders and back of the kimono. I like a clean simple gi with not too many patches. It seems like I wasn’t the only one with the same opinion because they recently introduced the Hayabusa Pro Jiu-Jitsu Gi without the extra art work. Its still a pricey gi at $230 bucks but I would love to test drive it and feel the triple weave rip stop kimono before shelling out that much money for a company that doesn’t have a reputation like Isami or Howard in the gi market.

“Spider’s Road to Health”

Its really great to see how much the whole BJJ and MMA community have embraced this healthy diet lifestyle. If you follow guys like Prof Ricardo Almeida or The Mendes Brothers on Instagram, you’ve seen how big they are on whole food diets. I personally don’t mind the taste of wheatgrass juice, and definitely would love to grow my own sometime in the future. Health is wealth my friends!

I’m not usually a fan of logos that look like a different logo but I like what @mantofight did here. It maybe because I was obsessed with Lego’s as a kid.

If today couldn’t get any better, the kind and physically attractive people over at BJJ HQ ( bjjhq.com ) sent me a pair of MMA shorts to review for them. So look out for that review within the week! Woo!

I am still in shock. Today while training at Professor Ricardo Almeida’s academy in NJ I received my purple belt from Professor Roger Mamedov. I just want to thank all my teammates from Williamsburg MMA and Ricardo Almeida BJJ, especially Eric, Charlie and Jeff!

Everyone stop what you’re doing! Vinnie Magalhes @vinnymma was stripped of his M-1 light heavyweight belt today so it is now on eBay! It’s only at $700 bucks so far which is a steal!

A word on: Running while listening to music.
I have had a few conversations with other MMA guys and pure runners about my opinion about running with or without the use of music. Most people I see running enjoy listening to music while the run, I do not listen to music while I run, I feel that it takes away half the point to running. To me, running is obviously a very physical task but also a test of how well you can keep yourself motivated and focused at the excruciatingly boring task at hand. Adding a distraction like music entertains you, it takes your mind off the challenge. When I run I talk to myself, I think about my last bjj session or my upcoming fight, on positive mantra’s or repeating goals I have set for myself, also I make sure my running form is correct. Music takes you away from that. I know that right off the bat people will say, “music is motivating, and keeps running fun!” Everything can’t be fun. We have to learn to endure, you shouldn’t depend on a crutch like music to push you. Strive to push yourself. Your mind can be your worst enemy or your best friend! Stay away from dependance in every way possible, you never know when it won’t be there for you and you will fail without it.

BOOK CLUB!

Rafael Lovato Jr. posted on his instagram recently that “Think & Grow Rich” was his favorite book. The next day I found myself in the self-help isle holding a copy of the book. As I flipped though the pages and read the back cover I couldn’t help but notice him much it talks about money. My goals in life aren’t driven by monetary gains but I bought the book anyway. A few chapters in I can see why Lovato Jr. Loves this book so much, it’s about the mindset needed to reach your goals, the word money can me replaced with anything and it will still apply. I’ll leave you with a excerpt from the book I have re-read about 14 times.

“If the thing you wish to do is right, and you believe in it, go ahead and do it! Put your dreams across, and never mind what “they” say if you meet with temporary defeat, for “they,” perhaps, do not know that every failure brings with it the seed of an equivalent success.” - Napoleon Hill
